Sketching Gender, SF Sights, and Environmental Flux – A Blend of Dark Humor and Iconic Emoji Symbolism

Concepts in flux. Exploring gender, the state of our environment, the sights of SF – the state of my environment.

Stylistically I’m keeping to the retro semi-minimalist illustration style of the 20’s-40’s. Periods that are one of my favorites in design: residential architecture, fashion and furnishings. A time I did not exist in – therefore a time easily romanticized yet politically and economically turbulent.

Mixing historical visual language with the shorthand of today I choose familiar emoji’s, specifically those that we give external meaning —a code beyond their face-value.

I enjoy the wit of dark humor and pull this into  these explorations as a signature of my personality.
